3rd National Cooperatives Congress in Malaysia

During the closing ceremony of the ANGKASA 3rd National Cooperatives Congress in Kuala Lumpur on July 26, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the government wants wider public participation in the cooperative movement. He also encouraged federal and state government agencies to set up cooperatives and urged the more than 15,000 cooperatives across the country to collaborate with the government in making Malaysia a more sustainable and productive nation.Read More

Coops Day in Zimbabwe

In Chivi District, Masvingo Province, Zimbabwe, over 5,000 attendees gathered to celebrate the 2024 International Day of Cooperatives. The two-day event showcased the diverse work of cooperatives in the region through workshops and exhibitions. Hon. Monica Mutsvangwa, Minister of Cooperative Development, and delegates from the ILO, various banks, Plan International, USAID-UK, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, and senior government officials attended the event. In her address, Minister Mutsvangwa pledged to facilitate dialogue between the cooperative movement and banks to unlock financing opportunities for cooperatives. She also committed to reviewing the outdated Cooperative Societies Act to create a more conducive environment for cooperative growth.Read More

CHI welcomes new member: FenacoHAB from Brazil

We are excited to announce a new CHI member: FenacoHAB from Brazil. FenacoHAB is the national federation of housing cooperatives in Brazil. FENACOHAB has 15 registered and regular housing cooperatives and more than 50 participating cooperatives. It is Brazil's only active National Federation of Housing Cooperatives, representing more than 50,000 cooperative members. FenacoHAB works to represent, guide, strengthen and promote housing cooperatives in Brazil.Read More
