MOBA Network

MOBA is a network of pioneering housing cooperatives from Central Eastern Europe, (Belgrade (Ko gradi grad), Budapest (Rákóczi Collective),  Ljubljana (Zadrugator), Prague (Sdílené domy) and Zagreb (Cooperative for Ethical Financing)).  In 2017, they decided to join forces and meet regularly to build the necessary pool of expertise, capacities and financial instruments to launch pilot projects in their respective countries. They are receiving support from the Cooperative for Ethical Financing, Socialni inovatori, FairCoop, Heinrich Böll Foundation, urbaMonde and World Habitat.

Similar problems of access to housing and affordability that exist in so many other cities around the globe are also affecting this region. MOBA collaborates across borders to share knowledge, resources, and strategies for affordable, collectively-owned housing. Together, MOBA empowers local communities to take ownership of their housing futures, advocating for cooperative models as alternatives to speculative real estate markets.

MOBA Accelerator

The MOBA Accelerator is a pioneering initiative designed to support and expand cooperative housing and land use models in Europe. Through this program, MOBA offers resources, training, and advisory services to grassroots housing cooperatives, helping them navigate the complexities of property development, financing, and governance. The accelerator focuses on scaling up projects emphasizing community ownership, affordability, and sustainability. It provides strategic guidance to new and existing cooperatives, aiming to establish a replicable framework that can support cooperative housing development in diverse European contexts. The MOBA Accelerator ultimately seeks to strengthen the cooperative housing ecosystem and promote a fairer, community-centered approach to housing.
