Successful Consultations for Australia’s National Housing and Homelessness Plan

The Australian government has recently issued a summary report detailing the outcomes of the consultation on the new National Housing and Homelessness Plan. Among the submissions received, the Business Council for Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM), the peak body for cooperatives and mutuals in Australia has played a crucial role in coordinating a comprehensive report from the housing cooperative and community-led housing sectors. It’s worth noting that the government has recognized the need for community-led housing coops and developments as recommended in the report. Additionally, the government has acknowledged that laws and support from the authorities are necessary to facilitate more community-led and coop housing projects. This is an important step towards recognizing the role community-led and cooperative housing can play in solving the country’s housing crisis.
