Latest CHI podcast episode on leasehold housing coops
In our latest podcast episode, we welcome Blase Lambert from the Confederation of Co-operative Housing in the UK and Thom Armstrong from the Co-operative Housing Federation of British Columbia in Canada. Together, they discuss the advantages and disadvantages of housing cooperatives on leased land. The discussion explores the challenges faced by coops in preserving their community against the demand of cities to accommodate more residents.. Additionally, they talk about the community land trust (CLT) model, which serves as a catalyst for housing development. The CLT model also enables collaboration with local governments to lease land for extended periods and construct much-needed affordable homes.
