CHI Launches Global Survey on Cooperative Housing Laws  

Cooperative Housing International (CHI) has initiated the International Legal Research Analysis Initiative (ILRAI), a global survey examining the laws governing housing cooperatives. Collaborating with the ICA Cooperative Law Committee, this survey seeks insights on governance, financing, taxation, and membership rights. Responses from countries like Canada, Sweden, Zimbabwe, and India are paving the way for a comparative legal analysis to support advocacy and legislative reforms. Findings will debut in 2025 during the UN International Year of Cooperatives.

Sustainability Innovations in Swedish Housing Cooperatives  

Sweden continues to lead in sustainability, with housing cooperatives incorporating eco-friendly designs. Highlights include HSB Living Lab’s energy-efficient solutions and Brf Viva’s green certifications, including solar energy storage innovations. Riksbyggen, a CHI member, also stands out for integrating sustainable practices like eco-friendly construction and community spaces, contributing to long-term climate goals.

CHI Board Meeting and General Assembly in New Delhi  

CHI will convene in New Delhi on November 28, 2024, to outline strategic goals for 2025. Discussions will cover updated statutes, governance, and initiatives aligning with cooperative values. The event offers a crucial platform for global collaboration.

Celebrating Housing Cooperatives’ Anniversaries  

– CoHabitat Network’s 10th Anniversary: A Geneva meeting honours a decade of advocacy for participatory housing solutions globally.  

– CHFT’s 50th Anniversary: Toronto’s federation reflects on achievements, including its Diversity Scholarship Program and housing policy influence.  

– Confcooperative Habitat’s 70th Anniversary: Italy’s housing cooperative celebrates its history of community-driven solutions.  

Spotlight on Cooperative Housing in Latin America  

A study reveals how cooperative housing in Uruguay sets an example for addressing housing inequality in Colombia and El Salvador. Researchers explore how favorable policies can help cooperatives thrive in regions dominated by neoliberal housing models.

Global Cooperative Conference in India  

From November 25-30, 2024, the ICA will host the Global Cooperative Conference in India, marking the launch of the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025. This event underscores the role of cooperatives in building a better world and fostering global collaboration.
