Riksbyggen, one of Sweden’s largest housing cooperatives, recently donated SEK 1.7 million to We Effect for housing development. The decision was made at Riksbyggen’s annual general meeting. The support is directed to the joint program they run jointly with HSB and We Effect. WeEffect is a Swedish international development organization working to end poverty through cooperative solutions—especially in housing, land rights, and gender equality.
The funds will support a new housing program focusing on climate-resilient homes in East Africa, support for women-led co-ops in Central America, and housing for peacebuilding in Colombia.
“This collaboration is grounded in decades of global cooperative experience,” said Lina Öien, Head of Sustainable Development at Riksbyggen. “A home brings security and the chance for a better life. We are committed to making a tangible difference for those who need it most.”
The donation underscores the importance of international solidarity and cooperative action in addressing the global housing crisis.
